The 3rd ICAM-China Research Summit for Emerging Scientists Successfully Held in Liyang

From November 20 to 23, 2025, the 3rd ICAM-China Research Summit for Emerging Scientists was successfully held at the Yangtze River Delta Physics Research Center in Liyang, Jiangsu Province. Co-hosted by the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kavli Institute for Theoretical Sciences, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, the summit gathered more than 120 experts, scholars and doctoral students from 32 domestic universities and research institutions in Liyang to discuss and look forward to future development.
Targeting doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, outstanding young teachers and researchers in physics, materials, information and related disciplines, this summit invited renowned experts in relevant fields to deliver invited reports, organized doctoral students to give parallel session reports, and held teacher-student exchange activities. It aimed to broaden research horizons, build an interactive platform between doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows and supervisors, and promote the sound mobility of outstanding doctoral students in universities and research institutions. Meanwhile, the summit arranged sharing lectures on fund application, overseas exchanges and job hunting to support outstanding doctoral students in planning and developing their future careers.
On the morning of November 21, Researcher Zhang Jiandi from the Institute of Physics , CAS delivered the opening speech, encouraging everyone to actively communicate during the summit and fully showcase their scientific research achievements and academic elegance. Subsequently, Academician Chen Xianhui from the University of Science and Technology of China delivered an invited report entitled “Emergent Phenomena in Quantum Matter and Their Prospects”. Director Zheng Zhimin from the Department of Planning and Policy of the National Natural Science Foundation of China gave an invited report on the funding work of postdoctoral fellowships. Associate Professor Mao Minglei from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Tenured-Track Associate Professor Guan Mengxue from Beijing Institute of Technology delivered keynote reports entitled “My Doctoral Career Planning: From Deep Diving into Scientific Research to Career Choice ”and “From Postdoctoral Fellow to Young Faculty Member—Growing Through Confusion,” respectively.
One hundred doctoral students from 32 universities and research institutions, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Science and Technology of China, and the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave oral presentations. In addition, another 20 participating doctoral students showcased their latest research progress and achievements in the form of posters. Postdoctoral supervisors and doctoral students in attendance conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on scientific frontiers in related fields and issues related to scientific research career planning.
Four postdoctoral fellows—Li Jiaheng, Shi Yunhao, Song Boqin and Wang Yu—were awarded the 2025 Outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow Award of the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Eight doctoral students, namely Dong Zehao from Tsinghua University, Zhang Xiaoyi from Peking University, Wang Dajing from Beihang University, Xia Zhanyi from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Cai Zhuoyan from Nanjing University, Zhu Yuhan from the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, Jiang Bowen from Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Wang Xiaochen from Dalian University of Technology, won the 2025 "ICAM-China Emerging Scientist Award". Researcher Hu Jiangping, Deputy Director of the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, presented the awards to the winners.

The summit concluded successfully in a warm atmosphere. During the summit, the wonderful reports by experts and scholars, the achievement displays by doctoral students, and various interactive exchange activities greatly promoted academic exchanges. The active participation of numerous universities and research institutions further strengthened the ties and cooperation among all parties, laying a solid foundation for future academic cooperation and talent training. It is believed that with the joint efforts of all parties, the ICAM-China Research Summit for Emerging Scientists will continue to flourish in the future, making greater contributions to the prosperity and development of China's scientific research cause.
